Medicare is a national health insurance program that is facilitated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It is generally available to most workers that are over the age of 65 and those individuals that have been on Social Security Disability for more than 2 years. Original Medicare consists of 2 parts Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. The premiums for Medicare Part A are paid through contributing to Social Security during your working career. Medicare Part B premiums are paid on a monthly basis once enrolled. Medicare Part B premiums vary depending on income. These two parts of Medicare cover very specific services offered at hospitals and doctor's offices with a coinsurance amount once the deductibles have been paid.
In addition to what is available under original Medicare, there are other ways to receive coverage and minimize healthcare related expenses.
